My Ambition Life without ambition would be largely passive and complacent; life without dreams would be meaningless and boring. It is ambition that provides us with the necessary driving force to accomplish any undertaking in our life. Ever since I was young, I have had different dreams and ambitions. When I was young, I dreamed of becoming a soldier; when I was a teenager, I dreamed of becoming a scientist. Now I have grown up and become a doctor, and I have forgotten some of my childhood dreams, but I still cherish an ambition that I would like to make it come true. My ambition is that one day I would be able to cure cancer. Cancer has become one of the top killers of human life. As a doctor, I have seen too much sufferings caused by cancer. I am working hard on my dream. Besides taking care of my patients I also undertake a lot of research work on cancer and every time I publish our findings on the journal, I feel I am getting closer to making my dream come true. I have already made some progress in my research. I hope that one day we can have a breakthrough in our research and can cure cancer with some pills. I will keep working on it until it comes true. On Scientific Development and Human Well-being (1) Nowadays, science and technology give a great influence on human’s civilization with its historic power and unexpected speed. Science and technology give us much positive effect, but at the same time, they also give us more negative effect. So I say, science and technology is a double-edged sword, it is human’s lucky star, it is also human’s disaster star. Science and technology have brought us a lot of benefits today. The development of science and technology have made human more and more powerful. Kinds of vehicles extend our feet；Telescope and microscope extend our eyes; information technology and internet extend our mouths and ears. In a word, Science and technology have speeded up our productivity, given us comfortable living conditions, and brought us into today’s modern society from the savage primitive society. Especially, the invention of relative theory, nuclear technology, quantum theory, information technology and others have brought human into a high tech era. These great achievements have given people such conveniences and comforts. However, if people can’t use science and technology properly, it will bring us fatal disaster. In science field, people opened “Pandora’s Box” not just once, and it has brought human huge worry and many hidden dangers. There are so many games, violence and sex on the internet. These have affected the young seriously. Because of clone and biologic technology, human is confronting the danger of extinction. Much industrial pollution has made environment worse. More and more countries hold nuclear weapons, and that let human in the danger of disappear at any time. Now the worst problem is people still don’t realize all these facts. We know, every country is robbing nature resources crazily; every country is polluting environment willfully; every country always put the most advanced technology into military first, and new mass destructive weapons is being invented and spread continually. In fact, the earth is filled with kinds of dangers, we are losing our home. Science and technology is speeding up our death! Actually, science and technology itself is neutral, but when it is combined with human’s benefit, it can make people very greedy and selfish. With the development of science and technology, human are living at the border of living and extinction. As Charles Dickens said: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us....” So I think human should stop all nature research at once. We should get along with other animals and environment. Please return the earth the original kind atmosphere. On Scientific Development and Human Well-being (2) No one can deny the fact that our society has dramatically changed by modern science and the human has made extraordinary progress in knowledge and technology over the recent decades, whether we like it or not. Maybe someone who has the privilege of enjoying without any endeavor will insist that we should put the clock back to the remote antiquity. But for the vast majority of the population, the earlier age was nasty, brutish, and short. With the development of science and technology, our lives have been more colorful and full of convenience. For instance, in the past, when people wanted to correspond to their family or friends who were far away from them, they could simply deliver the letter by a pigeon, which would take long time to be received. While now, we can just give a phone or write a message by a mobile phone, just taking few minutes. As the ever-accelerated of science and technology updates, nothing can prevent the inquiring minds from promoting science reaching out a further evolution. When reading newspapers or turning on TV, we can see a variety of things in terms of science, even in the routine tests. New organisms are already being engineered to enrich our society, and new genetically modified food provides considerable benefits for the higher yields and the decrease in using harmful chemicals. Furthermore, as we pace into the Internet Century, diverse information is continually appearing to our eyes to broaden our horizons, liberating our mind. What's more, we have never postponed our exploration of the universe, maybe we will one day fly out of the Galactic System to have a casual encounter with the aliens. It is indisputable that science has been deeply rooted among the people, taking hold. As every coin has its two sides, science is just like a double-edged sword. An increasing number of experts believe that our environment is being polluted as fast as the progress of science and the science doesn't exert positive effects. Moreover, in the course of pursuing the development, natural resources can be exhausted if we fail to take into account its significance, only focusing on the immediate interest. Hence, the sick joke is that we can do a lot in a very advanced way but noting can fill our belly to maintain our lives. In consequence, it is our inescapable duty to protect our environment and save all the resources, especially the nonrenewable resources, which should be given priority. In a nutshell, only when resource conservation and the development of science reach an absolute consensus can our lives become permanently harmonious and can we have sufficient faith in our promising future.
