Can it serve as a good introduction to Chinese (science-) fiction for foreign readers? For the question whether Folding Beijing is a good introduction to Chinese fiction, I think the answer is no. To be honest, the science fiction has never been the mainstream of Chinese fiction. I did some research and found a Bestseller list of Chinese fiction in 2017, no science fiction on top 10 which was occupied by youth novel and detective fiction. ranks 13.
