常见的最高程度表达方式 ■崔长平 河南遂平一高（463100） 我们一般使用形容词或副词的最高级形式来表达最高程度的概念。如： To him, the most important thing was to save lives. He jumps the highest in our class. 但是除了使用最高级之外，常用来表达最高程度的还有以下几种方式： 1.用形容词或副词比较级+than +any other +n（sing）/ anything（anyone）else / the others /any of the other +n（pl）/ any of the others 表达。如： Bamboo probably has more uses than any other plant in the world. Many years ago there lived an Emperor, who cared more for fine new clothes than for anything else. The Prime Minister was more fit for his office than anyone else. She is much larger than the others. The animal was lame because with one foot he left a track much lighter than any of the others. 2.在限定数量范围内用比较级表达某事物甚于其它一切。如： The Atlantic is longer and narrower than the other two. 3.用形容词或副词的比较级+than ever来表达。如： By seven o’clock, the wind was blowing harder than ever. 4.用否定词+形容词或副词的比较级表达。如： No man has traveled farther than the moon. Never slept better. But nobody knew more about her than that. 5.用as+形容词或副词的原级+as possible / as one can 表达。如： Please come as soon as possible. We’ll try to get there as early as we can. 6.用否定词+形容词或副词原级表达。如： I’ve never seen such fine drawings. They have never seen so many of them before. Nobody else sings as well as Mary in our class. 7.用含有最高程度意义的短语表达。如： In front of the house was a tall tree, its top well above the tops of the other trees.
