第一段词汇解析

①一直在干什么，有含蓄抱怨之意。

②vicar = priest， clergy， pastor，牧师。

③repaired = fixed。

④used to do，过去常常，区别 be/get used to +n./doing，习惯。

第二段词汇解析

①with a start = in surprise，惊跳、惊奇。

②the clock was striking the hours！是放在冒号后面的解释分句，另外， strike oil 大发横财； strike the right note 说到点子上，恰到好处。

③caught sight of = saw。

第三段词汇解析

①Bill 在这里是称呼语。

②一般说来，引号中的话都作说话动词的宾语从句。

③to give you a surprise.整个不定式短语作宾语，而该宾语本身是 give 所带的双宾语结

构， you 为间接宾语（一般指人）， a surprise 为直接宾语（一般指物）。 Give you a surprise

= give a surprise to you，一般间接宾语放在直接宾语前，而直接宾语放到间接宾语前需

要加 to，类似词 bring, give, show, send, pass, tell。
