【讲解】

hell本义为“地狱”，比喻“苦难的经历或事情”，例如:make one's life a hell on earth(使人活受罪）high water本义是“河、湖的高水位”，引申为河水暴涨。go through hell or high water意为“出生人死,经历重重困难”。
